Description:
As part of the Major Renewal Cascade Barberine project, SBB is planning to renew several power plants. The Châtelard I power plant is located in the village of Le Châtelard in the municipality of Finhaut in the canton of Valais and was built between 1919 and built in 1923. In 1972 the power plant was expanded to include the Châtelard II plant. The power plant is primarily used to supply traction power (16.7 Hz) to western Switzerland and the Simplon line. In the course of replacing all existing production units of the Châtelard-Barberine I power plant with a single 40MVA machine group, consisting of a horizontal-axis, a twin Pelton turbine and a single-phase 16.7Hz synchronous generator, the associated electrical engineering must be replaced.
