- The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) processes wastewater from the city of Winterthur and various municipalities based on contractual regulations. Today, the wastewater of more than 140,000 people and businesses is cleaned in four process stages and then discharged into the Toess.
In addition to the biological and mechanical cleaning, the wastewater is also chemically cleaned. One of the chemical processes - iron precipitation of phosphorus from wastewater - is used to reduce the amounts of phosphate in wastewater. The requirement for molar iron is approximately 160 tons.
