- SBB plans to replace the outdated GSM-R technology, which reached the end of its lifespan in the mid-2030s. Due to regulatory requirements, GSM-R is replaced by the new European standard FRMCS that uses modern 5G frequencies. The transition phase will take about two years in which both systems have to be operated in parallel. With this tender, the Swiss Federal Railways are looking for contracting partners for cables to support this implementation. Two providers are sought for this: one for the Mitte region and one for the Region East that cover all phases of the project in the cable area from the preliminary project to the project.
