- The Etzelwerk, built between 1932 and 37, uses the gradient between Sihlsee and Zurichsee for energy generation and produces around 10 % of Switzerland's rail flow. After the concession renewal in 2023, SBB is now planning renewal and replacement of system partsof the Etzelwerk pumped storage power plant as part of the "Etzelwerk power plant renewal". A corresponding project was submitted to the BAV 2024 for approval.
