Description:
In order to enable the renovation of the existing - around 17 km long - Gotthard road tunnel, the Federal Council, Parliament and the population have decided to build a second tube. The BSA equipment of the second tube, referred to as the North tube, will take place in part between 2027 and 2030 parallel to the completion of the structural work. Immediately after the opening of the North Tube for two-way traffic, the existing tube, known as the South Tube, will be replaced. The structural renovation is scheduled for 2030 to 2033. The existing BSA equipment of the Due to its age, the south tube will be completely dismantled. The new BSA equipment will partly take place in parallel with traffic operations and is expected to last until 2036.
