Description:
Urban, social and ecological connections form the basic principles of the project for the new primary school on Walkeweg in Basel. The urban ensemble consists of three buildings: auditorium building, day structure and classroom wing. Auditorium and daily structure in South face the neighborhood square and can be used by the neighborhood. The classroom wing in the north is dedicated to concentrated learning. The three buildings frame the Tiny Forest, a green playground and playground for both students as well as children from the neighborhood. The task requires an innovative and sustainable school. The architecture is based on sustainable construction. It is simple, free and concrete. Low-tech concept, wood and clay constructions as well as spatially integrated photovoltaic elements. The auditorium building and day structure are oriented towards the square and have two floors. The classroom wing has five upper floors and two basement floors with a mezzanine.
