Description:
The Riedstrasse crosses the Birs River between Zwingen and Laufen over a total of two bridges from 1966. While the first bridge leads directly over the Birs, the second spans a filled-in side arm and is only shown in the existing plans Bridge visible. As part of the preliminary project in 2019, a replacement bridge over the Birs at the same location was determined to be the best solution. The new bridge structure is intended to meet the increased demands of motorized traffic, including Oncoming truck traffic and special transport, as well as slow traffic. Care is taken to minimize traffic disruptions during construction and to create a long-lasting, low-maintenance structure.
