- Description:
- The Etzelwerk power plant, built between 1932 and 1937, uses the gradient between Lake Sihl and Lake Zurich to generate energy and produces around 10% of Switzerland's traction power requirements. After the license renewal in 2023, the SBB now runs the Renewal and replacement of plant components of the Etzelwerk pumped storage power plant as part of the Etzelwerk power plant renewal project. This includes the replacement of the existing covered pressure pipes between the moated castle and the machine house Altendorf through an underground armored pressure shaft. The subject of this tender is the excavation and securing of the new pressure shaft between the existing moated castle in Bilsten and the machine house. The propulsion takes place from the starting pit created by a secondary lot at the machine house in Altendorf. Machine-assisted rock tunneling (MUF) is planned for a first section of around 85 m. If the rock quality and coverage is sufficient, it can be used a tunnel boring machine is planned.
